Had a great time at the BFFI dressing flies; Speys and classics. The wing on the Speys should look like the”keel of an up turned racing boat” according to Pryce-Tannatt. The secret is to wash and steam the Bronze Mallard and keep the matched pairs in a box to retain their curved shape. Do not under any circumstances  store them flat in a plastic  bag the shape of the feather will be lost.

The technique in mounting the wings is to retain the stem (or rachis) on the feather slips and then use soft mounting thread loops. Let the fetaher do what it wants, do not force it into position. Also, do not used waxed thread, it will destroy the feathers at the mount point.
