One of Cow Greens little gems ……

A recent visit to Northumbrian Waters’ picturesque Cow Green Reservoir
highlighted how small wild trout could test ones reflexes to the limit.
Armed with a 6 weight rod, floating line and small black spiders using the
usual fishing method “a cast and a step”, these trout were lightening quick
and ferocious takers, just like the midges. After a few small fish, a
change to a black foam beetle and spider combination provoked an improved
response in the gentle ripple, especially to the beetle. A slow drift
across the ripple and a slow figure of eight retrieve was definitely the
order of the day. A visit to this beautiful place for a great days sport is
highly recommended but precautions against the midges is a must.
